How to Repackage a Transport Request (TR) in SAP?

It is not very common but sometimes one might need to repackage their Transport Requests into a different or new Transport Request. For example, it could be because a new tool for managing Transport Requests (like ChaRM) was introduced and old transport requests need to be repackaged into new transport requests created via the new tool. How to repackage a Transport Request (TR)? Or in other words, how to copy contents of one or several Transport Requests into a new Transport Request (TR)?

Let’s start with a quick retrospective about Transport Requests in SAP. Transport requests (TR) are like virtual containers for copying configuration and development objects between different SAP system. For example, if somebody needs to copy configuration from a development to a test system, they will include their configuration settings in a Transport Request (TR) after completing the configuration activities in the development system. After that, their Transport Request (TR) will be released and moved to the test system.

Now, what are the steps to repackage one or several TRs into a new TR? Here they are:

1. Start SE01, SE09 or SE10 transaction (they are similar and any of them can be used)
2. Find the new Transport Request (TR) in which you need to repackage old Transport Requests (TRs). There are various filtering criteria available in these transactions.
3. After you find the new TR, position your cursor on it and click on “Include objects…” button in the toolbar at the top of the screen.
4. The system will show a pop-up window with multiple options. Select the option “Object Lists from Multiple Requests” and press “Enter” button on your keyboard.
5. The system will take you to a next screen where you need to select the old Transport Requests (TRs) that you need to repackage into the new TR (from the step 2 above).
6. After you selected the relevant TRs for repackaging, press on the “Merge Object Lists” button in the toolbar at the top of the screen.
7. That’s it, you have completed repackaging of the old TRs into a new TR! 🙂
