Book Description

This is a comprehensive reference to what ESS & MSS are and how to implement them into an SAP ERP HCM environment. The book is written for HR and IT professionals currently supporting or considering implementing (or upgrading to) the new SAP ERP HCM ESS/MSS framework. It also provides core information for consultants who need to learn the basic and advanced concepts of ESS/MSS. The book details what ESS/MSS are, and describes the capabilities available in SAP’s latest release (ECC 6.0) using NetWeaver Portal (EP 7.0). Readers will learn how to use these tools to develop an effective strategy and implement a simple ESS & MSS application. Using real-world examples throughout, the book aims to educate readers on the important constructs and techniques of ESS/MSS.

The book will be structured into two main sections. The first section teaches the baseline ESS/MSS functionality – what it is and what it is not, and how it integrates into the SAP NetWeaver Portal. It also provides readers with a basic understanding of the various technologies available in the solution. The second part of the book covers more advanced topics like developing self-service applications with the Floor Plan Manager, which uses Web Dynpro for Java, and implementating an ESS & MSS application. The book also includes information on Duet™ as an example of an intuitive (and familiar) user interface. Other topics include authorization management (i.e., security), workflow, delegation, and functionality coming in later releases. The book concludes with applicable case studies to solidify learning.
