Book Description
The Advanced Planner and Optimiser (APO) is the software from SAP dedicated to supply chain management. This book addresses the question of how to implement APO in a company. It is written from a long years’ experience in implementation projects and provides project managers and team members with the necessary know-how for a successful implementation project. The focus is on introducing modeling approaches and explaining the structure and interdependencies of systems, modules and entities of APO. Another concern is the integration with the R/3 system(s), both technically and from a process point of view. Since APO projects differ significantly from other SAP projects, some key issues and common mistakes concerning project management are covered.
Book Review by John Hobby
I appreciate the fact that some effort is made to explain concepts rather than just showing SAP screens. There are a number of diagrams and figures that are helpful. In fact, without the graphics the information in the book would be extremely difficult, or at the very least take much longer to “click”.
Another section of the book, possibly the most useful after completion, is the “Transactions and Reports” section in the appendix. It is 14 pages of SAP transaction codes and brief descriptions broken up into relevant categories that can save valuable time finding long forgotten transactions.
In general, this book is most useful to someone that already has some familiarity with APO and APO structures and is interested in broadly expanding that knowledge a bit. This is not a good book for someone that is not already intimate with APO. I’m not saying that you won’t get anything out of it, but it will take time and patience to sift the wheat from the chaff.
About the Author
The Advanced Planner and Optimiser (SAP APO) is the software from SAP dedicated to supply chain management. This book provides an overview about the supported SCM processes and explains how to implement SAP APO in a company. It is written from a long years’ experience in implementation projects and aims to provide project managers and team members with the necessary know how for a successful implementation project. The focus of the book lies in introducing modelling approaches and explaining the structure and interdependencies of systems, modules and entities of SAP APO based on the release SAP SCM 2008. Another concern is the integration with SAP ERP, both technically and from a process point of view. Since SAP APO projects differ significantly from other SAP projects, some key issues and common mistakes concerning project management are mentioned as well.
